There are many places to stop while driving on this journey but they are mostly hotels run by people who do not understand tourism. The benefits of hiring a car and driver for this route is that you get a genuinely friendly, connected and knowledgeable driver and it takes all the hassle out of booking hotels or showing you around.

How to reach

The Tirthan Valley is located in the Kullu district and is a popular tourist destination. This valley has been known for various reasons, including its rich cultural heritage, pleasant climate, and natural beauty. Recently this valley has been attracting more and more tourists to its pristine and rustic beauty. 

The valley is located at a distance of about 12 kilometers from Kullu. This can be reached by road from Kullu which is the nearest airport, railway station and major town. The nearest airport is the Bhuntar Airport that is at a distance of 27 kilometers from the Tirthan Valley. To reach the airport one can take a taxi or bus that runs on a regular basis to the airport. From here one can easily board a flight to Delhi or Chandigarh which are the closest airports. 

To reach by rail, it would be better to travel to Kullu, which has excellent railway connectivity to almost all parts of the country. From here again one can travel by road to reach Tirthan Valley which would take around 2 hours drive. 

The easiest way to reach Tirthan Valley is by road from Kullu that lies on National Highway number 21 at a distance of just 40 kilometers from Manali. 

Reasons why you should visit

The valley has scenic beauty with mountains on all sides and lush green meadows surrounding it. Dense forests and tall pine trees can be seen everywhere. One can find waterfalls, glaciers, hot springs and lakes in this valley. Tourists also visit the temple dedicated to Goddess Kali on a hillock near Koksar.

The valley is home to various wild animals such as Himalayan black bear, leopard, barking deer, goral, ghoral and musk deer. The high altitude lakes are home to various species of fish like mahseer trout.

Tirthan valley is located in the Northern part of India, very near to the Tibetan border, and due to its location it has several similarities with other Himalayan valleys.

It is a picturesque place and many tourists visit this place to enjoy the beauty of nature. The valley is surrounded by snow-clad mountain peaks from all the sides. In winters the temperature here falls below -20 degrees and the places remains covered with snow for months.

The place is also famous for adventure sports like rafting, trekking etc.

Because of the proximity to Tibet, this place is also a favorite for most of the visitors who are interested in Buddhist culture and history.

Best time to visit

From the time it opens to the end of October, Tirthan Valley is a popular spot for all kinds of hikers. The valley gets its name from the abundance of trees and shrubs that grow there, which make it resemble a forest. It is known for its spectacular fall colors and the tirthans are usually at their most colorful in September and early October.

The best time to visit Tirthan Valley is from the second week of September to the end of October. This is when most of the flowers are in full bloom, giving off colors ranging from white to yellow, pink, red and purple.
