Walking on the Goechala trekking route is an amazing experience. It is not just one peak i.e., Kanchenjunga but you also get to see fourteen other summits that are big there. Goechala trek is a favorite among trekkers since it offers a variety of perspectives in one trip.
The complexity of the situation
The challenge of the Geochala trek ranges from moderate to complicated. The trek starts in Yuksom which is a town on West Sikkim. It’s not recommended for those who are new to the trek because it’s situated at an altitude of 15,000 feet above sea level. It can take between 10 and 11 days to cover the total length of the Goechala trek which is quite a lengthy time.
At first, the terrain of Goechala is moderate, but it transforms into steep terrain once you reach the highest points. The trek can be more dangerous in winter, since snow blankets the entire trail, which runs through landslides as well as severe climate conditions.

Here are some things you should know about the GoechaLa Trek. It takes between 10 and 11 days to complete the route.
Below is the entire plan that will assist you in completing the stunning tour.
- Location: West Sikkim.
- Starting point: Yuksom.
- Ending point: GoechaLa trek.
- Distance covered: 90 km.
We reached New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. We then traveled up to Yuksom’s base camp. Yuksom. We were at an altitude of 5,670 ft.
Today we traveled between Yuksom to Sachen. There are a few ancient bridges as well as dense forests along the route to Sachen. The elevation we were in was an elevation that was 7,150 feet.
On the route to Tshoka, the route passes through a steep ascent and Bakhim village. Bakhim. The summit was 9,700 feet. From here, you can enjoy the stunning views that stretch across Mount Kanchenjunga and Mount Pandim. We took a break here and enjoyed the view.
Tshoka-Phedang and Phedang-Dzongri.
This is by far the most pleasant and vital aspect of the hike. It is surrounded by beautiful scenery and is full of beauty and scenic beauty. It has a range of trails that range from flat to steep. It is possible to reach an altitude of 12,980 feet.
We refreshed our energy in Dzongri. It’s going to be mostly an unwind day. You will be able to reenergize yourself and enjoy the views too. We slept under the clear skies and felt renewed and ready to continue the hike.
This path will be the perfect blend of descending and ascending paths. The route will take you to a stunning river called The Prekchu River. Our next stop is Thansing approximately 2km away from the River of Prekchu. It is at an altitude of 12,900 feet.
A trek beginning from Thansing up to Lamuney. The trek’s distance is about 4 kilometers. It’s the easiest portion of the entire hike, with a smooth trail. We reached an altitude of 13,650 feet. In the morning we headed toward Lamuney. Along the way, we saw an amazing still-water lake known as Samiti that you could see on the following day of our hike.
Lamuney-Goechala-Samiti Lake and then back to Thansing. This is the longest and most challenging day of your trek and will take you to your destination. We saw a few peaks like:
Kabru both north and south Kabru dome Kanchenjunga, Gocha Jupano, and Pandim.
After that, we drove home to Thansing.
Returning to Thansing towards Tshoka. The distance traveled will be about 16 km, and will take approximately 7 to 8 days to cover. After arriving at Tshoka the next day, we were able to stay in camp for the night.
From Tshoka to Yuksom. The total distance of the trek will be 15km and could take as long as 8 hours to complete the journey. The trek will be a total descent route.
From Yuksom to NJP. The distance to NJP about Yuksom is approximately 150 kilometers and will take close between 8-9 hours based on what conditions are driving. The station was reached by the evening. We stayed overnight there and walked around local markets too. Then we discovered the nightlife of NJP.
